New Deal for Carers.
On 21st February 2007 the minister for Care Services, Ivan Lewis, announced a package of support for carers as part of the government’s “New Deal for Carers”.

Nationally there will be £25 million to be spent on providing short term home based respite care for carers in crisis or emergency situations in every council.

There will be £3 million towards the establishment of a national helpline for carers.

A further £5 million will support the development of an “expert carer” programme.

There is no news yet as to what this will mean in terms of the detail for Northamptonshire but as soon as they are known they will appear on this site.

Further details of the announcement and comments from Imelda Redmond, Chief Executive of Carers UK can be found at
