Do you have a child with a disability?
If yes the then please read on!

Family Link links together disabled children with families and individuals who can provide them with regular short breaks. These short breaks take place in the homes of carefully selected and vetted carers/families. Short breaks provide the opportunities for the child/young person to make new friends, gain independence and widen their social circle.
The scheme is open to children and young people up to the age of 18 who live in Northamptonshire. The scheme caters for children and young people with a diagnosis of a disability e.g. autism, cerebral palsy, sensory impairments, Down Syndrome or a physical disability.

Short break carers are all thoroughly checked and approved and have to attend an induction and preparation course. They are provided with ongoing training and support from an allocated Family Link social worker. This means parents can relax knowing that their child is in a safe environment with carers who can meet their individual needs, likes and dislikes. This allows parents to spend time with their other children or do things that they would not normally get the chance to do.

Eligibility for Family Link is based on a Core Assessment which will be carried out by a social worker. If you are the parent or carer of a disabled child and your child has an allocated social worker from the Disabled Children’s Team (DCT), you should discuss your interest in Family Link with them. If you have no involvement with the DCT you should contact your local Children’s Referral Team:

The Kiloran Trust is a registered charity that provides Holiday Breaks for Carers in London, allowing them to “do their own thing”. They do have vacancies and are very interested in making contact with Carers particularly Carers who are not used to taking a break on their own as the atmosphere they provide is a friendly and relaxed one.

All bedrooms have en-suite facilities and the cost of the holiday covers food. For low income funding can be found to cover costs.
