Special Needs-Involving Parents (SN-IP) is the Northamptonshire Parent Partnership Service
SN-IP helps families who have a child with special needs take an active part in their child's educational development. SN-IP works with all those who help children with special educational needs.

The children are in the age range 0-19 years and include the large numbers of children without a statement whose special educational needs are met in mainstream schools, as well as those who have a statement and are educated in mainstream or special schools.

SN-IP aims to:

  • Provide information.
  • Provide confidential and impartial advice and support.
  • Help parents and carers express their views.
  • Assist them in getting those views valued by professionals.
  • Work with schools and Northamptonshire County Council to help them involve parents in all aspects of their children's special educational needs.
  • Provide opportunities for the early resolution of disagreements between parents and school or Northamptonshire County Council.
  • Promote working partnerships between parents, education, social services, health and voluntary organisations.
  • Help parents and carers to choose a parental supporter who can be completely independent of Northamptonshire County Council if parents wish.

Modern technology has some unexpected uses.
Carers have you thought about buying one of the new wireless doorbells as an alert to you when the person you care for needs something?

This is how it works
The bell push stays with the cared for person. The plug in ringer goes with the carer and can be plugged into any socket in the house or shed or garage. This gives the carer much more freedom to get on with jobs around the house, garage and garden.

Available from all electrical and DIY stores.

'A useful tip'

Shopping from a catalogue or the web can get boring and you don't get the pleasure of seeing and handling the goods first before you buy them.

Carers, do you realise that most shops will allow you to take clothes, shoes, etc on approval if you explain the situation?

Do remember to find out how long you can have the goods on approval and if they are not wanted, make sure you return the goods by that date. Remember to keep the receipt or you will not get a refund.

Being able to see and handle clothes and make a choice,  will give the cared for person so much pleasure and a feeling of being able to make their own choices.
